October 2008 Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals (SICP) News

The Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals held the SICP 2008 annual meeting in Las Vegas on July 31-August 2, 2008. The conference focused on the needs of today’s cardiovascular professional. Cath lab professionals came from cardiovascular teams, electrophysiology teams, and peripheral teams; the SICP is an inclusive membership society for all these areas. David Allie, MD, FACS, FAAC, FACA, FCCP and chief of cardiothoracic and endovascular surgery at the Cardiovascular Institute of the South, Lafayette, Louisiana spoke on the “Explosion of Endovascular Therapies in Peripheral Artery Disease,” covering current endovascular treatments, pathophysiology, and unusual case studies with Cine Review. Morton J. Kern, MD, FSCAI, FAHA, FACC, Clinical Editor, clinical professor of medicine, associate chief of cardiology at the University of California addressed the conference attendees on “Cath Lab 101,” covering the topics of basic and advanced hemodynamics, complications in the cath lab, coronary lesion assessments, and unusual cath lab cases with Cine Review. The SICP’s Signature RCIS Review Course, EP Basics, and a review of cardiac anatomy and EP physiologic references were presented, followed by a wet lab with porcine dissections. The SICP Past President Tracy Simpson, RCIS, FSICP presented the 2008 President’s Award to two individuals: Jeff Davis, RRT, RCIS, FSICP and Belinda Trollinger, RN, RCIS, FSICP. Jeff Davis is a valuable resource to the SICP. He is on the Board of Directors as the SICP representative to the Joint Review Committee on Education in Cardiovascular Technology (JRC-CVT). The JRC-CVT is involved in the accreditation process for cardiovascular technology programs. Jeff has also been the Cardiovascular Technology Program Director at Edison College since 1991, and is an instructor of SICP’s Signature RCIS Review Course. In addition, he has donated his time to the SICP for years, and is a mentor to many cardiovascular professionals. Belinda Trollinger, RN, RCIS, FSICP is the Publications Chair on the Board of Directors. Belinda is a founding member of the SICP Emerald Coast Chapter and is a Chapter Liaison for developing chapters. She is also the SICP 2008 Annual Meeting Conference Chair. The SICP recognizes and endorses the Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) credential, offered by Cardiovascular Credentialing International, as the inclusive credential for invasive cardiovascular allied health professionals.
