Cath Lab Digest Annual Symposium on Cardiac Care (ASOCC): Education Awaits!

April 2003
You may have seen the most recent commercial for Las Vegas: a middle-aged woman has just married a handsome, younger man who appears bewildered. She says, I have to get back to my convention! but returns several times for a kiss before finally breaking away. Supposedly we are to take away the idea that Las Vegas holds both romance and people who are serious about attending conventions. Although we remain doubtful about the exact truth of this idea, there’s no doubt that Las Vegas provides a fantastic setting for the Cath Lab Digest Annual Symposium on Cardiovascular Care (ASOCC). Lectures, presentations, and faculty pack the latest information into an educational three-day cardiovascular fest. The quality of ASOCC education speaks for itself here are some examples of the topics attendees will have the chance to explore: Preconference Choices, Choices: A Look at Adjunct Pharmacology for PCI James Ferguson MD You want to put a catheter where and do what!?! A Brief Look at the History of Interventional Cardiology - Where We’ve Been, Where We’re Heading. Spencer King MD Keynote: Lessons in Leadership Ginger Graham Drug-Eluting Stents: Hit or Hype? Thomas Maloney MHA, RCIS, FSICP Women’s Health Issues: At the Heart of the Matter Ginger Graham Applications of Genetic Research - Are We Going too Far? Jeff Dossin RCIS, FSICP Presenters. Qualifications for ASOCC speakers are many: they must be a whiz on PowerPoint, have a sense of humor, speak clearly, and inspire awe. Also, they must be fearless. Attendees from last year’s symposium not only actively listened, but on occasion, were heard to exclaim at a particularly amazing piece of information or laugh out loud at some well-timed invasive cardiology humor. Midway through the symposium, ASOCC also provides a motivational speaker to refresh the hard-working brains of attendees. Special Symposia. Any teacher worth her salt offers a little extra something to her best, most motivated students, and ASOCC is no exception. Preconference, morning and evening symposia are available on topics ranging from pharmacology to reimbursement, to hemodynamics or data integration. Posters. Working on a process or quality improvement project? Completed an in-lab product study? Part of ASOCC involves the chance for you to share your hard work and experience with others through informational poster sessions. It’s also a good pathway to publication if you’re so inclined. Cath Lab Digest will be publishing the ASOCC abstracts. If you’d like to participate, we need your abstract ASAP.
